The Comal River in New Braunfels is our top pick for kid birthday parties. It's the shortest float (2.5–3 hours — perfect attention span for kids), the shallowest and most gentle river, has the famous tube chute (a concrete slide that kids absolutely love), and the put-in is at Landa Park, which has playgrounds, picnic tables, and grassy areas perfect for post-float cake and presents.
- Age minimums: Comal River requires age 5+ (city ordinance). San Marcos recommends 6+. No exceptions.
- Life jackets: Required by Texas law for all children under 13. Free at every outfitter.
- Adult-to-kid ratio: We recommend at least 1 adult per 2–3 kids. An adult should be in a tube next to each child, not across the river.
- Sunscreen: Kids burn fast. Apply SPF 50+ before departure, bring the bottle to reapply, and consider rash guards for extended sun protection.
